New Years Resolutions

Ok, I'm a little late to this game, but I've decided that resolutions for the year are a good idea and that I should make some clear goals for 2012. I really think that 2012 is going to be a good year, it's the year of the London 2012 Olympics, plus it's the Diamond Jubilee; there is an air of celebration and success and dare I say it, national pride which is infectious and inspiring.

I believe that setting clear goals to work towards give purpose to life. Having purpose is important, otherwise you just meander through life and then at the end of 2012 wonder where the year has gone. If I make resolutions I can look back and know that I've achieved something.

  1. Begin saving for a home. Recently I've had this desire to buy a home of our own, maybe I'm just bored and fancy a change and realise I can't really justify moving if I don't buy, but whatever it is, I think it's time I put in some effort. So starting straight away I'm going to really try and save, buy less DVDs, cut back on unnecessary luxuries etc.
  2. Learn a language. This is a little more out there, but I think it's disgraceful that so many British people can't speak a language. Plus it would be nice I think if/when one day I have children of my own, that they be bought up able to speak another language from the start. So, I'm going to make an effort, not sure which language, but I'll come up with one. Feel free to suggest some in the comments!
  3. Exercise. I really need to exercise more, I think if I can do this then I'll generally be healthier, more successful, happier etc. Studies have shown that people who exercise have a better overall state of health and mind and perform better in their work life. I don't know what form the exercise will take though, perhaps I will take up playing squash again, or even (shock!) follow Naomi's lead and try running, who knows!

Ok, that's it, three resolutions is a good number.

If you're reading this, please hold me accountable. Tweet me and ask me how I'm doing in a few months! Make sure I'm making good on my resolutions. I don't expect to have bought a house by the end of the year, but I should be a step closer, and hopefully I can tell you how I'm doing in something other than English!
